Today I picked the last of the peonies in our yard. They’re so delicate and lovely, a true flower of springtime. The light pink ones originated from my great great uncle, and have the most beautiful fragrance.
A short vignette of a book being created using traditional printing methods.
For the Daily Telegraph. Shot at Smith-Settle Printers, Leeds, England. The book being printed is Suzanne St Albans’ ‘Mango and Mimosa’ published as part of the Slightly Foxed series.

The last project for my Issues In Design class, a poster and invitation to an event honoring someone from graphic design history. I painted all the background elements, and added text on scanned image. (i.e. what i do most of the time…)

I attended a lovely graduation ceremony in the sunshine this past weekend at the University of Hartford. Congratulations to the Hartford Art School class of 2012. I’ll miss you guys so much! (second photo via Hailey)
This looks great — Swan Lake by Ping Zhu, a double-sided accordion book about the ballet (the front side shows the eager audience, and the back side shows the performers backstage).
I recently bought this! So awesome, I love it. :)

switching over
kidimapilot.tumblr is now jessiesattler.tumblr. that is all.
Amazing night last night at the AIGA CT Fellow Award celebration for Pam Williams. Pam is quite an inspiration, and a wonderful person as well. I had the honor of receiving the 2012 AIGA Student Scholarship. I met a lot of awesome people, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead!
I was really happy that my professors, John Nordyke and Natacha Poggio, came to the event as well. (Photographed above with Ethan and I)

Thoughts
When I made the realization that I can make whatever I want, my artwork became more of what I wanted it to be, and more of what other people responded to. It sounds really simple, but it took a long time to figure that out.
A few weeks ago was the Hartford Art School’s first annual open studio day. I worked on my book all day. That’s my dad in the bottom picture, visiting me!
Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway was the single most extraordinary event in my entire life, thus far. Words can not describe the performance. I have never felt so many emotions, so strongly.
I grew up listening to the vinyl album as a kid, dancing around my living room singing at the top of my lungs. I bought the CD in middle school and have periodically broke it out to listen, through the years. Its been my favorite musical for…who knows how long, so it really meant a lot to go see it live, which I never have before, with my mom, who introduced it to me so long ago.
